One of the most significant Hadiths, as narrated by Sa‘d ibn Abi Waqqaas, states that consuming seven Ajwa dates in the morning protects one from harm caused by poison and witchcraft for the day. This Hadith is found in both Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim. The specific mention of Ajwa dates from Al-‘Aliya, a region in Madinah, emphasizing their unique status.



Apart from their religious significance, Ajwa dates are known for their numerous health benefits. These dates are a natural source of various nutrients and have been found to have anti-inflammatory properties similar to commercial drugs like ibuprofen and aspirin. Research conducted by King Saud University in Riyadh highlighted these properties, showing Ajwa dates' potential in disease prevention, including cancer.


Ajwa dates are also beneficial during childbirth, aiding in the smooth expansion of uterine muscles and reducing pain. They contribute to increased milk production in mothers and help prevent blood loss post-childbirth. In Saudi Arabia, especially in Madinah, Ajwa dates are frequently found. They are also known as ‘Dates of Paradise’ as Madinah is where the people following Islamic culture go for their pilgrimage. They are also shipped overseas to several nations worldwide. Ajwa dates must be kept in an airtight container in a cold, dry location to ensure their freshness and flavor.

These dates can be eaten just as they are. You can also add them to any smoothies as they can add extra flavor and nutrition. In addition, they can be used next to coffee or Arabic coffee specifically. Dates can be eaten in so many different ways according to your liking.
